Boating & Fishing in Brewster
Saltwater fishing in Brewster waters includes striped bass, bluefish, tautog, and flounder in the spring, summer, and fall, and cod in the winter.
For charter fishing boats refer to the business directory: they are located at Sesuit Harbor in East Dennis, at Rock Harbor in Orleans, and Saquatucket Harbor in Harwich Port. Salt water licenses are now required unless you are on a chartered boat. There are no boat ramps at any of Brewster’s saltwater beaches. Refer to the Business Directory for charters available.
Brewster also has 48 freshwater ponds and a diversity of game fish including large-mouth bass, small-mouth bass, pickerel, trout, sun fish and perch.
There are boat ramps at Sheep’s Pond (3HP motor), inside Nickerson State Park (10HP), and at Long Pond and Upper Mill Pond. Jet skis are prohibited at all landings in Brewster.
Kayaking, canoeing and standup paddle boarding are also popular in Brewster. The Bay side beaches have kayak racks that can be reserved through the Natural Resources Department and the Recreation Department lease kayaks at Upper Mill Pond in July and August. Licenses are required for both salt and fresh water recreational fishing in Massachusetts.
- Salt water licenses cost $10 for both residents and non-residents between the ages of 16 and 59. Fishermen 60 years of age and older also need to obtain a license, but it is free for them, as well as those under 16. - Fresh water fishing licenses may be purchased online at takemefishing.org or ma.wildlifelicense.com. They can be purchased in person at Goose Hummock shop in Orleans. Both long-term and short-term licenses are available.
